JR Smith requests trade from Cavaliers

Cleveland Cavaliers' guard JR Smith told the media he would like to be traded from Cleveland this season.

The off-the-wall, erratic shooting guard is hoping to get traded, and admitted as much to reporters Thursday. He not only lost his starting job, he's also appeared in just four of the team's seven games this season, averaging just 12.0 minutes per game.

Per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, Smith has not officially made his intentions known to the Cavs' front office.

Last season, Eric Bledsoe (then of the Phoenix Suns) was fined $10,000 by the National Basketball Association for his "I Don't wanna be here" tweet.

They got their first win on Tuesday against the Atlanta Hawks. "He wants to go younger in that position and, you know, find somebody who's a grinder and younger in that position".

Fedor reports that GM Koby Altman recently sat down with Smith a few days ago to ask him whether or not he wanted to stay around the team while in a lesser role.

"It's not about me, it's not about who wants me here and who doesn't want me here".

Smith seemed to suggest that Lue playing the Cavs veterans may have been his death knell.

Cleveland guard JR Smith told reporters Thursday, November 1, he'd like to be traded from a Cavs team that appears determined not to use him, an admission that could see him fined by the National Basketball Association.

The 6-foot-6 veteran has started 218 of 248 games since the Cavs acquired him in 2015.

Smith has had a rocky relationship with Cleveland fans, some of whom love his care-free spirit while others still blame him for losing track of the score in the closing seconds of Game 1 in last year's NBA Finals.
