Xi assured Khan that China considers its relations with Pakistan a diplomatic priority.

China promised to support Pakistan's economy on Friday.

Agreements pertaining to poverty alleviation in Pakistan, strengthening cooperation in agriculture and industrial sectors and technical training were signed by the two sides.

The Prime Minister, who left on a four-day official visit to China said that low crime was easy to check but tackling white collar crime needed speciality and expertise which Pakistan was struggling.

India and Pakistan have been disputing the status of the Jammu and Kashmir region since the end of British rule in 1947.

"China wants to avoid such transparency because exposing the terms of the CPEC project agreements could validate the USA criticism of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) as a debt trap for emerging economies", the Post report said.

"Khan's trip is important for reasons beyond the immediate financing needs", Uzair Younus, a South Asia director at Washington-based consultancy Albright Stonebridge Group LLC, said by email.
