Ocasio-Cortez could lose her title of the youngest woman elected to Congress in a matter of hours.

Veronica Escobar earned 68 percent of the vote in her bid to fill the Texas 16th district seat vacated by Beto O'Rourke when he ran for senate.

Democrats Rashida Tlaib of MI and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota will be the first Muslim women to serve in Congress. They also picked up two more firsts for Congress: Tlaib is the first-ever Palestinian-American and Omar the first Somalian-American to serve in that office.

There were 15 Democratic women running on Senate ballots along with eight Republicans.

Colorado voters delivered a historic win Tuesday with Rep. Jared Polis projected to be the country's first openly gay male governor.

American voters have elected many men in their 20s to Congress.

Blackburn, a conservative lawmaker closely tied to the President, looked to nationalize the Senate race as much as possible, hoping to tap into the same conservatism that elected Trump in order to blunt some goodwill Bredesen had built up during his two terms as governor.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 29-year-old Hispanic activist who won a surprising primary victory against a 10-term white incumbent, is the youngest woman elected to Congress. Ayanna Pressley, a 44-year-old member of the Boston City Council who scored a similar upset win, is the first black woman elected to Congress from MA. Tallahassee, Florida Mayor Andrew Gillum lost to Ron DeSantis, shooting down hopes that the Sunshine State would elect their first Black governor.

Republican women had significant - though far fewer - barrier-breaking election night victories. In successfully overtaking the incumbent in the state's 3rd Congressional District, Davids also becomes Kansas's first openly LGBT candidate to win a major office.

The former refugee, who won in Minnesota's left-leaning 5th Congressional District, defeated Republican candidate Jennifer Zielinksi. Mills, now the state's attorney general, has won the governorship, checking another state off a long list that has never had a female chief executive. The victory was considered a stunner and helped make Ocasio-Cortez a national political figure.

On Tuesday, at least two of those states sent women to Congress. Pennsylvania elected four women to the House, and Oklahoma elected one when Democrat Kendra Horn won an upset victory against a Republican incumbent.
