LeBron James has monster game, passes Wilt Chamberlain on all-time scoring list

LeBron James has been breaking records since he entered the National Basketball Association at age 18, and on Wednesday night, moved into fifth all-time on the National Basketball Association scoring list when he passed Wilt Chamberlain with 31,420 points as he knocked down a free throw against the Blazers late in the fourth for his 39th point of the game.

The injury dampened a night when James passed Wilt Chamberlain for fifth on the all-time scoring list while recording 44 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists.

"Anytime my name is mentioned with some of the greats to play this game, I always think back to my hometown, where I come from, how far I've come", James said. Los Angeles opened the season in Portland with a uninspired loss, after which James declared that the Lakers' product wasn't instant oatmeal.

Before the Lakers embark on a three-game trip including his return to Cleveland on November 21 (Nov. 22, PHL time), James showed his new home fans what they can expect in big games, as if they didn't already know.

"It's tough", James said.

Portland (10-3) has won four in a row since a 114-110 loss to the visiting Lakers on November 3, its only defeat on a six-game homestand that culminated with a 100-94 win against the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

The Panthers (6-4, 5-1) can clinch the ACC Coastal with a win in one of their final two games. The 10 teams at the top of the rankings are in the same positions they occupied on November 6.

He notched his 39th point with an and-one midway through the 4th quarter that gave Los Angeles a commanding 121-106 lead over Portland.

JaVale McGee scored 20 points and Brandon Ingram added 17 in the Lakers' sixth win in seven games.

The Lakers had switched to a bigger starting lineup when Portland and Los Angeles met the second time.

Their third date with the Blazers will mark the end of a much-needed successful homestand before they embark on a three-game trip out East. Jusuf Nurkic had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and Aminu scored 18 points.

They'll meet for a third time this season on Wednesday at Staples Center, and both teams have elevated their play since they last met. He took a hard foul to the head a few minutes later, but even that couldn't stop him from grabbing his moment.
