CIA Director Haspel to Brief Lawmakers on Khashoggi Murder

Menendez spoke to reporters as he left a closed-door briefing for some Senate committee leaders and Senate leaders by CIA Director Gina Haspel. Senators have moved to punish Saudi Arabia by advancing legislation to curtail US backing for the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

The CIA said Haspel didn't attend because she had already briefed congressional leaders on Khashoggi.

US Senator Bob Corker, the current head of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, also said after the meeting that there was no doubt in his mind that MBS ordered Khashoggi's murder. "A guilty verdict", Corker said.

Paul said if he was allowed into the secure room for the briefing, he'd ask Haspel - a Kentucky native - several other questions, including whether there were text messages sent from the killers to the crown prince's office.
