Tyler Perry pays off $400K worth of layaways

Christmas came early for a bunch of lucky Walmart customers. because Tyler Perry just picked up their tabs.

Tyler Perry is in the spirit of the season.

The money paid outstanding layaway bills for two Atlanta-area Walmart stores - 844 Cleveland Avenue in East Point, Georgia and 7001 Concourse Parkway in Douglasville, Georgia.

The Madea creator and actor took to Twitter with a video revealing a good deed he had originally hoped to keep anonymous, "but you know how nothing stays secret these days".

Perry captioned the video, which has been "liked" over 78,000 times at the time of this writing, "I was trying to do this anonymously but oh well!"

Perry took to his social media accounts to explain that he meant to keep the kind gesture completely anonymous, but the word quickly got out. That covered all but one penny of the balances. A manager at a Douglasville Walmart that benefited from Perry's kindness told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that they occasionally see one person's order paid off by a stranger, but they've never seen anything like this. Her husband and the team's former owner, Tom Benson, passed away in March.
