Instagram gets rid of scrolling - by accident

Instagram users woke up to an unusual surprise on their favorite photo-sharing app this morning (Dec. 27), when they realized that they could no longer swipe vertically to get through their feed. "Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories".

Users across the globe are reporting the app switched within the last hour. And some of those posts happen to be ads.

Given the extremely negative response that the updated received from its users, Instagram may think twice about releasing the update to the public. Users were also not given a choice to avoid the new interface as an app update wasn't required to see the timeline change. "We're always testing ways to improve the experience on Instagram and bring you closer to the people and things you love", a spokesperson told TechCrunch in October.

Golfer Jyoti Randhawa, arrested for poaching, sent to 14-day jail custody
He teed it up 14 times worldwide a year ago with his best finish being a T-16 at the Asian Tour's Take Solutions Masters. Randhawa, who turned professional in 1994, has been a well-known name in Indian golf.

The new feed went live on Thursday morning, however it wasn't meant to go live for everyone, with Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri tweeting that it "was supposed to be a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated".

Instagram changed the feed Thursday from a vertical scroll to a horizontal tap. We've reached out to Instagram for more information and we'll update this post when we know more. And, as might be expected with any major change to a social media platform, the Internet did not take kindly to the update and sounded off accordingly and with much outrage. There is no option in the settings part of the app to change the feed back to the original one either.
