'Bright fireball' meteor shower visible from Singapore on Friday morning

The Qaudrantids are expected to be visible in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The spectacular show, which graces the sky every January, is expected to crest between 9 and 10 p.m. EST Thursday, according to the International Meteor Organization. While most meteor showers have two-day peak, Quadrantids only peak for a few hours, so plan accordingly.

'Most meteor showers have a two-day peak, which makes catching sight of these other meteors much more possible, ' it added.

At the peak, 60 to 100 meteors per hour may be seen streaking across the sky.

Though intense, the Quadrantids feature only a brief peak.

Don't give up hope if you don't live in those areas.

The Quadrantids get their name from Quadrantid Muralis, a constellation - no longer recognized as one - first spotted between Boötes and Draco in 1795. For sky watchers to witness the crescendo of meteors, the timing must be right. Each year, Earth passes through this debris trail for a short time.

Like the Geminid meteor shower, the Quadrantid comes from a mysterious asteroid or "rock comet", rather than an icy comet, which is unusual. Once you're warmly dressed and in the dark, allow for your eyes to adjust. Be patient-the show will last until dawn, so you have plenty of time to catch a glimpse.

You'll be able to see them with the naked eye if you stand in a dark spot away from street lights. The shower will happen between the Big Dipper and Bootes constellations.

On January 5 and 6, depending on where you live, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in China, in North and South Korea, in Japan, in Russian Federation, and over the North Pacific Ocean and the Aleutian Islands.
