Amazon has sold more than 100 million Alexa devices

During the holiday season, sales of Amazon Echo Dot devices exceeded expectation and almost one million people signed up to receive invites to buy the Echo Auto- a dash-mounted Alexa-enabled device for any vehicle, Cnet reported.

Amazon has never shed details on sales units when it comes to devices sold with its Alexa assistant, but now the finally has revealed a number for the first time, ahead of next week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES): over 100 million. The number was revealed in an interview by The Verge with Amazon's SVP of devices and services Dave Limp. We know that many are already using the Echo and Google Home devices for smart monitoring and usage and this ecosystem is expanding vastly.

Tesla to break ground on Shanghai factory
Electric carmaker Tesla's first plant outside the U.S. , the Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai , is about to begin construction. The new Gigafactory will produce Tesla Model 3 and the produce will be used to cater to Greater China region demands.

While not all the devices included in the 100 million figure are made by Amazon, it does emphasise the public's trust in the company's AI voice assistant, Alexa. Anyone looking to make use of more of an on board voice assistant will still have to fall back on the use of Bixby. What this means is that Assistant- and Alexa-enabled devices will be able act as remote controls for the TV and as streaming devices, among other (rather limited) functions. This app is part of the "Google Play" Android app bundle, so it's included in the box in pretty much every Android phone sold outside of China. As opposed to iPhones and Android devices which come with these assistant's built in by default.

It wasn't long ago that the Google Assistant was a Pixel-exclusive feature. It is odd, but true; voice-assistant speakers are actually taking over as smart devices. There are now over 150 products shipping with Alexa built-in, like the Sonos One speaker and the Bose QC35 II headphones, but it's unclear how many they've sold versus Amazon's Echo Dot. If you are unaware, Echo Auto can be mounted inside any vehicle and is powered by Alexa. Amazon has done well with its two-year head start in the market.
