AMD's latest laptop CPUs include its first chips for Chromebooks

Acer and HP are first out of the gate with their respective AMD-powered Chromebooks although additional offerings from other competitors haven't been ruled out.

The new model of the HP Chromebook 14 (via Digital Trends) will be available with either AMD's A4 or the A6 series of processors inside, along with either Radeon R4 or R5 GPUs. Google has all but given up on them and instead is switching to ChromeOS tablets such as the Pixel Slate. The Chromebook 315 features a 15.6-inch display with a native resolution of 1366x768 pixels.

The new series features durability, spill- and tamper-resistant keyboards and all-around rubber bumpers to withstand bashes and bumps Asus believes the kids of today will inflict on the devices.

AMDCES2019
AMD has been doing quite well in Chromebooks with some partner announcements at CES such as the HP Chromebook 14 AMD and the Acer Chromebook 315

If you hadn't guessed, the C204 is the successor to the C202 and the C214 is the follow up to the Asus C213. The tablet has the 10mm rubberised chassis that's rated drops up to 100cm. However, a similar Chromebook with an Intel chip such as those will likely cost you $50 to $100 more, depending on other hardware specifications.

Acer are now jumping onto the ChromeOS tablet yet-to-be-completed bandwagon with the announcement of a new ChromeOS tablet, the Tab 10. An all-day battery is promised. Then again, it's not a super powerful machine, with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of eMMC storage. This 14-inch AMD-powered Chromebook will be available in 1366 x 768p non-touch and 1920 x 1080p touchscreen models - and at $30 more, the touchscreen is indeed the model you should be grabbing. There are two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, two USB Type-A 2.0 ports, a microSD card reader, and a webcam. Meanwhile, these new Ryzen 3000 Series APUs, can provide up to 10 hours of battery life, and include features that enable wake on voice, modern standby, smooth PC gaming, and 4K HDR Streaming. Availability is only described in general terms ("the coming months") with details around configurations and pricing also coming soon.
