Andrew Wiggins Clarifies Dennis Schroder Comment, Denies Calling Thunder Forward 'Gay'

Standing outside of the team bus, still soaking wet from the shower that a euphoric Timberwolves team gave him in the locker room after his first career victory, Ryan Saunders shivered in the cool Oklahoma City night.

Oklahoma City Thunder center Nerlens Noel was taken off the floor on a stretcher on Tuesday night.

While rising up to contest Wiggins' dunk, Noel caught an inadvertent elbow to the face, then landed head-first on the floor. After being motionless for a few minutes, he was conscious when taken away on the stretcher.

"I don't even remember when I was 32", Thunder coach Billy Donovan joked before the game. "So the more he's around I think the better it is for all of us, just because of what he represents and what he's about".

The Thunder did not release any details of Noel's condition and ESPN reported an official update was expected on Wednesday. Teague was issued two technicals and ejected, while Schroder also picked up a technical.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins appeared to call Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder "gay" when questioned about Schroder's on-court behavior in a postgame interview, but Wiggins later denied making the homophobic remark once his comments went viral on Twitter.

And Steven Adams was keen to point no blame towards Wiggins for the unfortunate incident.

"It was just a really s-- play", Steven Adams said.

Wiggins is clearly heard saying at the 35-second mark of this video: "I don't know what's wrong with him, he was just gay". Hopefully he's good. I hope nothing but the best for him.

Noel was called for a foul on the play.

Noel's injury overshadowed a superb performance from Wiggins, who finished with 40 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, shooting 11 of 24 from the field. He's not someone I look at as a problem. Schroder later got into a shoving match with Minnesota point guard and former Atlanta Hawks teammate Jeff Teague that resulted in an ejection.

He also spent a year with the Dallas Mavericks before joining the Thunder in July 2018 on a two-year contract.
