Three People Killed, Hundreds Injured In Passenger Trains Collision

The two trains smashed into eachother in Pretoria, the capital.

Emergency personnel and paramedics are working round the clock to free people trapped under the wreckage of two trains that collided before 09:00 at Mountain View station in Pretoria on Tuesday.

It occured at Mountain View Station.

More than 300 people have sustained minor injuries.

"For now, I can confirm that we have closed the Mabopane line until the scene has been cleared and investigations have been concluded", said Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng.

According to reports there were 800 people on board at the time of the crash.

"Circumstances leading up to the collision are at this stage unknown, however rail authorities and law enforcement have control over the incident".

Best Care Ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser confirmed that one patient who was critically injured was airlifted to hospital.

Details regarding what lead to the crash are still sketchy, and we're still trying to establish the cause of this awful accident on the railway.

"We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish those injured a speedy recovery", Vadi said.
