'Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex will become Patron of four organisations that reflect the causes and issues with which she has always been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare, ' the Palace said in a statement. "Her Royal Highness feels she can use her position to focus attention on, and make a particular difference to these organizations and, more widely, the sectors they each represent".

Meghan reportedly has had not had any contact with her dad since before her wedding, when he was caught staging paparazzi photos for money.

She will be a patron of the National Theatre, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Smart Works and Mayhew. And when she was just 11 years old, she wrote to Procter and Gamble because she thought one of their advertisements was sexist.

In December, the Duchess invited the director of the National Theatre, Rufus Norris, to a private meeting where they discussed plans for when she is the Patron of the National Theatre.

The National Theatre is close to Meghan's heart as she was an actress who had a role in United States legal drama Suits before she joined the Royal Family.

She has taken on honorary roles with Mayhew, Smart Works, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Kensington Palace said.

The ACU is the world's oldest global university network that represents higher education across all 53 Commonwealth countries. As expected, they encapsulate some of her established interests in empowering young women and supporting girls' education in developing countries.

Animal welfare organisation Mayhew tweeted: "We're honoured to reveal that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex has become a Patron of Mayhew". Smart Works is a charity that helps long term, unemployed and vulnerable women regain the skills, confidence and tools to succeed at job interviews, return to employment and turn around their lives.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex visit Redwoods Tree Walk in 2018 in Rotorua, New Zealand. It is a grassroots charity working to improve the lives of animals and people to better communities both in London and internationally.

Kensington Palace confirmed Meghan would be visiting the Smart Works today, and will be making public visits to the other three organisations over the coming weeks.
