FreeDive, new streaming service from Amazon's IMDb, offers free films, TV

Amazon said the IMDb Freedive catalogue of free movies and TV shows "will continue to evolve with new titles added regularly".

Freedive will include a selection of acquired movies and TV shows, with the launch lineup inching TV shows like "Fringe", "Heroes" and "The Bachelor", and movies like "The Last Samurai" and "The Illusionist".

Streaming services like Netflix and Hulu certainly make it easier for us to consume the shows and movies we love.

The Freedive app will be automatically added to Fire TV devices.

The latest entrant into the streaming landscape comes from IMDb.

Though Freedive is pretty limited at the moment with only computer and Fire TV support, IMDb says it plans to expand its availability to other platforms in the future, including the IMDb mobile apps. Unlike some services though, this one's free (thanks to the ads!) to stream. What's more, customers can use an additional program called X-Ray, which, in true IMDb fashion, supplements the TV shows and films with trivia, information about the cast and crew, soundtracks and more.

"Customers already rely on IMDb to discover movies and TV shows and decide what to watch", Col Needham, founder and CEO of IMDb, said in a statement. Freedive is free, but its offering of full-length movies and TV shows does come with ads. The content joins IMDb's existing short-form original videos like The IMDb Show and No Small Parts.
