Grayling accused of 'gutter politics' over Brexit warning

Earlier on Friday UK foreign minister Jeremy Hunt said Brexit might not happen at all if May's deal was defeated.

Corbyn declined to say whether a Labour manifesto for a snap election would promise to deliver Brexit, arguing that this would be up to party processes, but strongly indicated his preference would be to depart with a deal that keeps the United Kingdom in a customs union and with access to the single market.

'This is too important for political game-playing and I urge Conservative MPs who back Brexit and others to back the deal.

"If not, we risk a break with the British tradition of moderate, mainstream politics that goes back to the Restoration in 1660".

'MPs need to remember that Britain, its people and its traditions are the mother of Parliaments.

Mr Hunt warned: "If we were, as a political class, not to deliver Brexit, that would be a fundamental breach of trust between the people and the politicians".

"I'm saying this would be [an] incredibly damaging breach of trust and it would also be very bad for Britain's reputation overseas, having made a decision to leave the European Union, if we in the end for whatever reasons found we weren't able to do".

'It will open the door to extremist populist political forces in this country of the kind we see in other countries in Europe, ' Mr Grayling told the Daily Mail.

Speaking on BBC One's Andrew Marr Show, Mr Corbyn said: "We will table a motion of no confidence in the government at a time of our choosing, but it's going to be soon, don't worry about it".

Former prisons minister David Hanson told Matt Frei that there "is scope" for Labour politicians to likeminded Tories to build a majority in the commons.

Ms Soubry, who was branded a "Nazi" and a "liar" by a mob who targeted her during live television interviews outside Parliament on Monday, described Mr Grayling's comments as "irresponsible nonsense".

Corbyn said: "What I'm saying is we're campaigning for a country that is brought together by investment", adding that people were "very, very angry about the way they've been treated in their different communities around the country".

"This kind of scaremongering is not only risky, but it is embarrassing", wrote the Lib Dems Brexit spokesperson Tim Blake.

"I'm in a leave constituency, but I would do what's right".

"I'll do what the right thing is, and the right thing for me is to make sure we don't crash out with no deal".

It comes amid reports that some Cabinet ministers believe Mrs May has run out of time to get crucial exit legislation through Parliament before March 29 - even if she wins the critical vote next week.

Writing in the Sunday Express, she said the United Kingdom is at risk of crashing out of the European Union without a deal or could end up not leaving at all.

A source said, "Tearing up the standing orders is what I would expect to happen".

Hedge fund manager Crispin Odey, who donated more than £870,000 to pro-Leave groups, said: "My view is that it ain't going to happen".
