Syrian air defences intercept 'missiles' near Damascus: State media

Meanwhile, the state TV said the Syrian air defenses destroyed eight Israeli missiles over Damascus, and cited airport officials as saying the airport was functioning as usual without changes of flights.

Benjamin Netanyahu's comments on Sunday at his weekly Cabinet meeting mark a rare public acknowledgement of Israeli activity in Syria.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights explained that Kiswa is "home to positions and storage sites for Iranian and Hezbollah forces allied with Syria's government".

Only recently has it begun to speak publicly about thwarting the weapons smuggling from Iran through Styria into Lebanon.

Israel has previously carried out several bombings in Syria against what it says are Iranian military targets and advanced arms deliveries to Hezbollah. Conricus says the United Nations peacekeeping mission, known as UNIFIL, has been updated.

Grayling accused of 'gutter politics' over Brexit warning
Earlier on Friday UK foreign minister Jeremy Hunt said Brexit might not happen at all if May's deal was defeated. A source said, "Tearing up the standing orders is what I would expect to happen".

Eisenkot told the New York Times: 'We struck thousands of targets without claiming responsibility or asking for credit'.

Conricus said there were no more tunnels reaching Israel from Lebanon but the army was still monitoring "facilities" being dug by Hezbollah within Lebanese territory.

Israel has called on the worldwide community to impose tough sanctions on Hezbollah and act against the state within a state operation in Lebanon.

Missile fire is seen from Damascus, Syria on May 10, 2018.

Israel has not responded to the allegations it was involved in that incident, but previous Israeli air strikes inside Syrian territory have drawn criticism and recently caused tensions with Russian Federation, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
