UK Government to tackle air pollution

The weather modification technique involves dispersing chemicals into the air to aid cloud condensation, which should in theory result in rain.

The environment group Greenpeace said Bangkok was now the 10th most polluted in the world, rivalling some cities in China.

Reasons for the persistent smog include combustion exhaust from traffic-strewn roads, the burning of fields by farmers outside the city, and pollutants from factories.

Public discontent has surfaced on Thai social media and television, with pollution-related hashtags trending and TV hosts advising viewers on the types of face masks they should wear.

The Pollution Control Department (PCD) should warn people on an hourly basis about air pollution, especially to protect vulnerable groups such as elderly people, children and sick people, and also adjust the country's PM2.5 safety standards to align with that of the WHO, Rungsrit said.

Mr Pralong said Bangkok recently experienced peak PM2.5 levels of 102 micrograms per cubic metre but the reading yesterday was under 90.

The government said Britain would become the first major economy to adopt air quality goals based on World Health Organization recommendations regarding people's exposure to particulate matter.

Kareem Hunt could find second chance with Chicago Bears
Pace was adamant Monday that the Bears need improvement in the kicking game, calling it a "position of emphasis for us". There is no doubt Hunt could do tremendous damage in Chicago, something many Bears fans are excited to think about.

"We must take strong, urgent action".

Almost a week since the PM2.5 level in Bangkok rose significantly, forming a thick layer of smog over the city, the air in Bangkok yesterday remained severely polluted.

Citing a ranking by airvisual.com, Greenpeace Thailand tweeted that Bangkok ranked the ninth worst city on Earth for air quality. In short: clean air helps you live longer. Also, people have been urged to stay indoors.

Health experts say the pollution is a "silent killer", which at current levels is extremely harmful to anyone stepping outside. "Thais don't have lungs of steel, so we need to consider the environment and people's health before we pursue economic growth".

The most polluting log burners will be banned within three years while coal could be outlawed under the Government's new air pollution strategy.
