NOAA, NASA release 2018 global climate data

The annual analysis released by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration found average temperatures across land and sea surfaces 1.42 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th-century average, putting 2018 fourth, behind 2016, 2015 and 2017.

The last four years were the hottest since global temperature records began, the United Nations confirmed Wednesday in an analysis that it said was a "clear sign of continuing long-term climate change".

The past five years were the warmest ever on record, a NASA official said on Wednesday in NY.

The United Kingdom Met Office, the U.K.'s weather service, said global temperatures over the next five years will average somewhere between 58.51 and 59.49 degrees Fahrenheit, or 14.73 to 15.27 Celsius. While this planet has seen hotter days, and colder ones, what sets recent warming apart is the relative suddenness of the rise in temperatures and its clear correlation with increasing levels of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane produced by human activity over the same period.

All the results show the same "escalator-like" rise that scientists think is linked to the loss of sea ice, as well as an increase in extreme weather events around the world.

'The impacts of long-term global warming are already being felt - in coastal flooding, heat waves, intense precipitation and ecosystem change'.

Eagles' Nick Foles To Void Option, Become Free Agent
It is going to be tough to pull off, but financially, it is far easier for the Eagles to pull off than many think. The Eagles will then shop Foles on the trade market, where they hope to fetch a 3rd round draft pick in return.

NOAA and NASA discussed 2018's global temperature and climate in a joint news conference Wednesday; both agencies maintain independent data that goes back to 1880 to monitor temperatures around the globe.

"Over the next five years there is a one-in-10 chance of one of those years breaking the [1.5C] threshold", Professor Adam Scaife of the Met Office told Reuters of the agency's medium-term forecasts.

NOAA notes that weather dynamics affect regional temperatures, so not every region experienced the same amount of warming. It said 2016 remains the warmest on record due to a particularly strong El Niño, which is a periodic event that warms parts of the Pacific Ocean and influences weather patterns around the world.

The data indicate that global warming shows no sign of stopping.

The text written by the United States institutions also highlighted that much of Europe, New Zealand and Middle East regions, as well as Russian Federation, recorded higher temperatures on land, while areas of the South Pacific Ocean and the North and South Atlantic also suffered maximum temperatures in the sea surface.

Those major disasters, plus other smaller-scale disasters, made 2018 the fourth-most costly year on-record.
