Ocasio-Cortez Welcomes McConnell's Call for Rush Vote on Green New Deal

On top of polls showing the Green New Deal is extremely popular, Nwanevu pointed to another survey showing "that 66 percent of Americans want to see action on climate change, with a 45 percent plurality favoring "immediate" action". Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and backed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

Democratic moderates have been less than enthusiastic about the proposal. It's the old red-baiting line of attack.

In addition, the bill lays out some lofty goals that could require massive, difficult-to-administer new programs, like a job guarantee and a plan to upgrade every building in the country for energy efficiency. The legislation is a nonbinding resolution that is meant to outline a plan to massively curtail carbon emissions while undertaking sweeping economic changes to boost jobs and worker rights.

Republicans view the proposal to transition to clean energy as a winning wedge issue in the 2020 elections.

Trump is already testing out this approach.

"I really don't like their policy of taking away your vehicle, of taking away your airplane rights, of 'let's hop a train to California, ' of you're not allowed to own cows anymore!" "We'll give everybody a chance to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal". The plan calls for a New Deal-style mobilization to shift the USA economy away from fossil fuels such as oil and coal and replace them with renewable sources such as wind and solar power. Ocasio-Cortez has since disavowed the FAQ, which was posted on her website, and suggested her political enemies disseminated the document to sabotage the proposal.

McConnell and the GOP "are terrified of this winning vision of a just and prosperous future, " he said, adding that McConnell "thinks he can end all debate on the Green New Deal now and stop this freight train of momentum".

Scholes will be in the dugout for his first game in charge tomorrow night (Tuesday 12th February 2019) at home to Yeovil Town. However, Scholes has now resigned from his position from Salford but will remain a shareholder.

The resolution is expected to fail in the Senate.

The highest-ranking Democrat in the United States is working to recruit retired fighter pilot Lt. Col. Amy McGrath to challenge Sen.

"There's a lot of people now going back on the Green New Deal, they're like 'Oh it's impractical, oh it's too expensive, oh it's all of this, '" Senator Cory Booker (D., N.J.), one of the many Democratic presidential hopefuls, said during a speech in Mason City, Iowa Friday.

To be sure, not all Senate Dems are as enthusiastic.

This isn't a new Republican trick.

Whatever happens next, it's becoming increasingly clear that the Green New Deal is turning into something the two parties think they can use to their advantage.
