Smokey Robinson calls Motown tribute complainers 'stupid'

But for anyone who'd been following along online over the last week, the tribute was indisputably controversial; Lopez came under fire after she was announced as the headliner for the tribute a few days earlier.

According to a press release, fans can expect a "signature Jennifer Lopez show each night featuring her distinctive choreography and dancers, incredible production and set design, dazzling wardrobe, and a non-stop party mix of new and classic J.Lo anthems". But it's more than that he reminded.

On January 12, 1959, Berry Gordy redefined music when he founded Motown Records at 2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit. "Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez for doing Motown".

When J. Lo finally took the stage for her big Motown moment, the result was not great.

Lopez agreed to do the performance with thoughts of her mother Lupe Rodriguez, who often played songs by Motown artists while she was growing up.

"You're a sick person".

Ravens trading Joe Flacco to Broncos
Flacco, 34, is a former Super Bowl MVP, but he's largely underwhelmed since Baltimore's championship season in 2012. The Broncos began to study him during Super Bowl week, sources told ESPN, and agreed to a deal before the combine.

Turns out that Lopez had both critics and supporters afterward and Robinson tweeted her a thanks. "@RecordingAcad y'all couldn't find BLACK women to do this MOTOWN tribute?!"

There will be a full Motown tribute show, titled "Motown 60: A GRAMMY Celebration", which will be taped Tuesday but air April 21 on CBS.

The label also posted then deleted the following... Huffington Post editor Phillip Lewis posted, "I'll never understand why they didn't choose someone Black for a MOTOWN tribute".

Prior to the show, Smokey Robinson publicly lauded Lopez's appointment for the tribute, telling Variety, "Motown was music for everybody".

'Any type of music can inspire any type of artist. This was the definition of self determination. Personally, I tried to give the performance a chance, but the truth is, I squinted through most of it, my shoulders tense, and my soul crying for Fantasia.

"It was, like, a Sunday and he was like, "I want you to do a meeting.' And he loves meetings". The SOUL? What did you all think of the performance and backlash?
