Dua Lipa Scores First Grammy for Best Dance Recording!

British pop singer Dua Lipa took home the award for Best New Artist at the 61st annual Grammys, held at the Staples Center complex in the US city of Los Angeles on Sunday.

"Oh my goodness. Thank you so much".

The statement was a reference to Portnow's comments a year ago when he said that female performers needed to "step up" in order to be nominated and win awards. "For anyone who hasn't realized how special they are to have a different story or background, just know that no matter where you're from, never let that get in the way of your dreams". The 23-year-old has already collaborated with artists including Diplo and Calvin Harris and Mark Ronson's Silk City.

Lipa's breakthrough came in 2016 with her first global hit "Hotter than Hell", which she followed with "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)", which busted into the US Billboard Hot 100.

In the category with Bebe Rexha and Greta Van Fleek, Lipa is amongst seriously talented artists-and she totally deserves to be there.

Last year's batch of Grammys nominees and winners were made up of nearly entirely men, effectively shutting out deserving female artists from the award show. While it was an emotional moment for the singer, she didn't hesitate to deliver a possible dig toward Recording Academy president Neil Portnow.
