James Gunn Reportedly Rehired As Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Director

James Gunn is back on to direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

Walt Disney Studios president Alan Horn reportedly met with Gunn to talk about the situation multiple times, according to Deadline.

James is also writing and directing the Suicide Squad sequel for DC, but Marvel has agreed to commence production on Guardians after he's done with the sequel. Persuaded by Gunn's public apology and his handling of the situation after, Horn chose to reverse course and reinstate Gunn. Gunn was sacked last July over tweets from almost a decade ago in which he joked about subjects like pedophilia and rape. After his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gunn has been on a hiatus from Twitter, with fans being disappointed not only by his firing but also from the lack of insight the filmmaker would offer fans about his films.

Gunn deleted the offensive tweets and apologized for his actions, and said he accepted Disney's business decision to fire him. Deadline first reported the news, which has been confirmed to CNET by Gunn's representatives.

Gunn took to Twitter to announce his return to the movie saying, "I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months".

Things are looking up for James Gunn. I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. Marvel never really made moves to hire another director as replacement and confirmed they would use Gunn's script, which he had already written prior to being fired.

Guardians 3 was originally scheduled to be filming now and released in 2020.

The cast was very supportive of their director with Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista all signing an open letter to get the director back.

The first two Guardians films have made a combined $1.63 billion at the box office worldwide, spawned two spin-off attractions at Disney's theme parks, and even influenced Marvel Comics to change the original comic characters to more closely align with the versions from the movies.
