Johnny Manziel on the move again, signs with AAF’s Memphis Express

The AAF signed Manziel to a player contract, announcing the news during the broadcast of Saturday's Arizona Hotshots-Orlando Apollos game.

As of this moment Manziel does not have a team, but he will go through the AAF waiver system since the San Antonio Commanders released his college allocation rights.

Johnny Manziel's football career hit quite the road block when he was barred from the Canadian Football League at the end of February, leading to his release by the Montreal Alouettes.

CBS Sports was able to confirm that Manziel would be joining the start-up professional football league after ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that the quarterback had signed a player agreement. The Express, who have struggled offensively all season, are on their third quarterback, starting with former Jets bust Christian Hackenberg, followed by Zach Mettenberger. The former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns could be the fourth quarterback to play for the team this season. Brandon Silvers replaced Mettenberger after he suffered an injury during Saturday's loss.

The pair's actions may have helped saved further casualties, as Tarrant was apprehended by two armed police officers soon after. Tarrant was remanded without a plea and is due back in court on April 5 where police said he was likely to face more charges.

The 26-year-old former Heisman Trophy victor last played for the Montreal Alouettes in 2018, where he threw for almost 1,300 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight games.

The statement from the Alliance said that Manziel "will report to Memphis tomorrow, where we all believe he'll benefit from the coaching and mentorship of Mike Singletary". In eight starts he completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,290 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He washed out of the National Football League less than two years after the Cleveland Browns selected him in the first round, making just eight starts and throwing as many interceptions as touchdowns (seven).

Manziel has dealt with several off-field issues.
