Now that the fire is out and we know that many of Notre Dame's precious relics have been saved, we can marvel at the 400 pompiers - or firefighters as we call them in English - who risked their lives running into the cathedral, uncertain whether the burning roof above them would collapse.

The extremist media group published the graphic showing flames in front of the Paris cathedral's bell towers, which survived Monday's blaze.

French President Emmanuel Macron is vowing to rebuild France's landmark Notre Dame Cathedral after a catastrophic fire that drew a global outpouring of sympathy and support.

As monetary pledges rack up to contribute to France's plan to rebuild the iconic cathedral, the Quebec government said on Tuesday it is also ready to lend a helping hand.

In the meantime, France's Heritage Foundation, which launched nationwide fundraising campaign for the restoration of the landmark site in the wake of the tragedy, announced that it collected 7 million euros to rebuild the cathedral.

Air pollution has done extensive damage to the cathedral's facade, eroding the stonework and its famous gargoyles, but it has received only two million euros ($2.2m) a year in state funding - far short of what is required.

Renovation work on the steeple is widely suspected to have caused the inferno after the blaze broke out in an area under scaffolding.

Many critics have argued that the cathedral itself is the real hero of the work, which the writer and campaigner began in 1829 partly to draw attention to the importance of the French capital's gothic architecture, which at the time was being widely neglected, defaced or pulled down to make way for new buildings.

Bertrand de Feydeau is the vice president of preservation group Fondation du Patrimoine.

Even so, repairing the cathedral - including the wooden beams that made up its roof - presents problems.

But experts had warned a full restoration will take many years.

Meanwhile, major travel agency H.I.S. Co says the reservation status for Paris since the beginning of January has risen to eighth most popular from 11th place a year ago. "That's how we felt", said Cuff.
