Gronkowski dented Lombardi trophy after using it as baseball bat, video shows

So naturally, he made a decision to use a Lombardi Trophy as his lumber.

The recently retired Gronkowski was one of 20 Patriots players present for the ceremony at Fenway, honoring the Super Bowl LIII champs.

The New England Patriots won their sixth Lombardi Trophy this past February, defeating the L.A. Rams in the lowest scoring Super Bowl in history in Atlanta.

Almost two dozen members of the Patriots were at Fenway on April 9 to be recognized for their championship win, and Gronkowski, Stephon Gilmore and Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman were scheduled to throw out the honorary first pitch.

McCourty referred to the dent as "Gronkowski's parting gift".

Before heading on the field, some of the Patriots warmed up their throwing arms for the ceremonial first pitches.

"No way is he going to swing the Lombardi trophy". Nobody thought he would actually do it, but it's Gronk, so no one is really surprised that he actually did. "He would never hit the ball with that, '" Patriots special teams ace Matthew Slater recalled to the team's website.

The ball left a huge dent in the trophy.

"Maybe they'll fix it down the road", Patriots vice president of media relations Stacey James said in a statement.

For now, the franchise has no plans on replacing the dented trophy.

"We're thinking, he's not gonna swing the bat, he's not gonna do it", says Pats safety Duron Harmon in the video.
