It's awesome to use your platform, but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and young boys are.

Selena Gomez has been through a lot these days and her fans are excited to see her at Cannes Film Festival for her upcoming movie The Dead Don't Die.

"Social media has really been awful for my generation", Gomez, 26, told a news conference at Cannes on Wednesday, where the actress is promoting zombie movie "The Dead Don't Die" alongside actors Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton.

While she did say that she's "grateful to have a platform", she noted, "In any way I can, I'll share things I'm very passionate about".

But she added: "I think it's pretty impossible to make (the internet) safe at this point".

The performer, who has more than 150 million Instagram followers and almost 58 million Twitter followers, explained that she's much more mindful of what she shares on her various channels these days. "I'll see these young girls at meet-and-greets". "I would be careful and allow yourself some time limits of when you should use it and when you shouldn't".

Director Jarmusch described the actress as "incredibly admirable" with regards to how she uses her celebrity platform. "The more we can talk about it and open other people's eyes and say, 'It doesn't have to be that way, ' and give them more examples, I guess society will change". She's hardly the first person to speak out about it too, as her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber recently slammed the press and scolded rabid fans online for spreading misinformation that put completely false Jelena speculations back into the conversation.
