Uber introduces 'Quiet Driver' mode for those who hate chit-chat

'With these new features and more to come, we're excited to ensure that our riders can arrive relaxed and refreshed, wherever they're headed'. The new "quiet mode" feature is free and will be available to all users in the US, albeit only available on Uber Black and Black SUV premium rides.

The function can be requested while ordering any Uber Black or Uber Black SUV and is advertised as flawless for those who "need to respond to emails or are in the mood fora nap". Perhaps the best addition is the new Quiet Mode option, which is exactly what it sounds like: a way to let the driver know you're not interested in chatting.

The new feature will also allow you to tell your driver what type of temperature you're keen for when you hop in. Of course, the development will be accompanied by a price premium, which should not be an issue for riders who need more, and are choosy about what they really want.

Uber Black is a luxury vehicle service that is yet to reach the shores of India.

Magnitude 7.7 Papua New Guinea quake raises tsunami threat
An alert for tsunami waves reaching 0.3 to 1 meter above the tide level was issued for some coasts of Papua New Guinea. There were no initial reports of serious damage but the full picture may not become clear until daylight.

If anything goes wrong, Uber Black users will have access to Uber's premium support line. Riders can also choose to ask for more time before getting into the vehicle in order to avoid late fees and to let the driver know if they have luggage.

There is no word on whether these perks-especially the coveted "quiet preferred" option-will eventually trickle down to the company's low-priced Uber X service. To avoid this social awkwardness, Uber has introduced Quiet Mode.

I think Quiet Mode is going to be a hit, perhaps because I requested that Uber build a "Quiet Ride Mode" in my December product wish list after suggesting it last July. I hate being interviewed by drivers.

The new options have appeared within the Uber app for riders who order a auto on the platform's luxury option, Uber Black and Black SUV. Asking them to be quiet seems too rude - they're lovely, after all - but what do you do? "The driver can have that information and do with it what they want".
