Three Indian climbers die on crowded slopes of Mount Everest

Don Cash, a 55-year-old OH native, died after he accomplished his quest to climb Mount Everest on Wednesday, according to the Washington Post.

"He was stuck in the traffic for more than 12 hours and was exhausted".

Cash was a Utah climber with a long-held dream to climb the highest mountains on the planet's seven continents, daughter Danielle Cook said.

But a small window of suitable weather before the short season ends has in recent days triggered bottlenecks of hundreds of climbers wanting to achieve for many - although perhaps not for purists - the ultimate in mountaineering.

Kulkarni, 54, died while still in the death zone, according to Thupden Sherpa, the general manager of her expedition's agency.

The situation led Ben Fogle, the TV adventurer who climbed the mountain previous year and is the United Nations patron of the wilderness, to say: "Nepal and Tibet/China need to limit the number of climbers with a London Marathon-style lottery for climbing permits".

Around 200 mountaineers, including guides, were attempting to reach the summit on Wednesday, according to the Times.

She and Cash's other two adult children say a cause of death has not been officially determined but that they believe he suffered a heart attack.

Three Indian climbers have died on Nepal's Mount Everest this week, bringing the death toll in this season on the world's highest peak to six.

An American man and an Indian man and a woman all died as they descended, various sources said.

He said that numerous climbers who were earlier stuck reached the top of the peak by Wednesday afternoon but the exact number was not yet known. The sherpas then tried to drag him to Camp 4, but around Hillary Step (28,839 feet), he collapsed again and could not be revived.

Mount Everest recorded what is thought to have been one of its busiest days on Wednesday (Thursday NZ time), as 200 to 300 mountaineers used a window of good weather to push for the summit.

Most Everest hopefuls are escorted by a Nepali guide, meaning more than 750 climbers were expected to tread the same path to the top in the current season.

Seven people have died in the last week trying to tackle the 8,848-metre peak - more than the total for the whole of a year ago. This could take the total past last year's record of 807 people reaching the summit.

While there has been a notable increase in the number of people attempting to climb Everest, it remains extremely risky.

In 2015, 18 people were killed at the base camp because of an avalanche triggered by a quake.
