Spielberg's latest horror can only be watched at night

Famed filmmaker Steven Spielberg has added yet another ambitious project to his docket: a horror series with a very specific frame of availability.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg After Dark - that's the working title, at least - will consist of 10 to 12 chapters, and can only be viewed under cover of darkness.

Veteran filmmmaker Steven Spielberg is writing a horror series for forthcoming digital platform, Quibi.

Spielberg had an unusual request however: He wanted viewers to only be able to watch the program after midnight.

Spielberg's After Dark (sexy saxophone plays) joins a growing roster of content coming to Quibi - a mobile-exclusive streaming platform that places an emphasis on short-form content, which Katzenberg believes will be more attractive for today's younger consumers.

"Steven Spielberg came in and said, 'I have a super scary story.,' but he said, 'I only want people to watch it at midnight, '" says Quibi co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg, noting that Spielberg wants the show to be "creepier" when someone is watching.

Yes, we're still a few days removed from the official start of E3 - but that only means it's time for the leaks to start flowing. At the end of the trailer , we also get some information about a technical alpha, which will begin on June 27th.

The service will launch on April 6, 2020, in North America ahead of a global rollout.

Katzenberg said Quibi's CEO Meg Whitman came up with the idea, which was then built by their engineers, to embed a ticking clock in the content player.

'What Quibi is doing, it's not really short form, ' Katzenberg said. He's actually writing it himself. "He hasn't [written anything in a while] so getting him to write something is fantastic". 'We're putting those sciences together. The result: A clock will appear on phones, ticking down until sun sets in wherever that user is, until it's completely gone. It'll feature short episodes, called chapters, that will range between 7 and 10 minutes in length. They are specifically shot to be watched on the go.

The service will reportedly cost $4.99 per month with ads, and $7.99 without ads. Or."Quibi." Each show will run a few hours long in total but be released in short, 10-minute or so chapters, nearly like a visual novel.

Quibi has also tapped a number of other stars to create content for launch.
