Former baseball star David Ortiz wounded in Dominican Republic shooting

Ortiz' pleas were first reported by Dominican journalist Dionisio Soldevila who tweeted out the news on Sunday.

An air ambulance owned by the team was flying Ortiz to Massachusetts General Hospital hours later.

In a statement, Tiffany Ortiz said her husband was "stable, awake, and resting comfortably".

Ortiz retired in 2016 as arguably the greatest designated hitter in history - and among the most popular Red Sox players in history - following a 20-year career that included 541 home runs, 10 all-star appearances, three World Series titles and a World Series MVP award.

Tiffany did not speak on that. He suffered damage to his liver and intestines, and underwent a six-hour, emergency surgery at a Dominican hospital before being flown to BostonMonday night.

That's when bystanders got a hold of Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia and roughed him up before turning him over to police.

Authorities in Santo Domingo offered few concrete details of their investigation into the shooting, but Dominican Attorney General Jean Rodriguez said in a statement the investigation had "advanced considerably", and that the results would be released "in a timely manner".

The corporate-governance reform "was discussed thoroughly by Nissan's board and approved by all board members, including Renault's own nominees", Saikawa said in a statement.

Also wounded in the attack were the Boston baseball legend's friend, TV host Jhoel Lopez, and a third person. A message reading "We send our love to David Ortiz" was flashed on one of the ballpark's scoreboards.

"I like to go to my country, and I know that people love you and take care of you, " Ortiz told ESPN, according to Listin Diario.

"Lastly, I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support and love that we have received during this incredible hard time", her statement reads.

Police have said the operator of the motorcycle carrying the assailant was captured and beaten by a crowd at the bar. Security video shows Ortiz seated at a table by the street as a gunman approaches from behind on a motorcycle and opens fire at close range at about 8:50 p.m. He was treated at the Dario Contreras Hospital in Santo Domingo before being released to police custody.

On Monday night at Boston's Fenway Park, the Red Sox and the team's fans made it clear that their beloved "Big Papi" was in their thoughts and prayers. He is expected to make a full recovery.

On twitter, former President Barrack Obama recalled Big Papi's spirit helping to rally the city following the Boston Marathon attacks.

"Today, I want to join many others in wishing him a speedy recovery of his own".
